Friends continue to urge protection of the Farm’s public spaces
in a statement from the board of directors on the Sir John Carling site,
in letters to the NCC and Minister McKenna,
and in comments about the baseline rapid transit plan on the Farm.
“It’s a research facility. It’s a public garden. It is a heritage site. We would like to see it stay that way.”
The Friends are working on a donor project to recreate a boundary forest at the western edge of the Farm where thousands of trees once grew. It’s an opportunity to be part of the Farm, learn more at Merivale Shelterbelt.
