Autumn Splendor Horse Chestnut

marronnier Autumn Splendor

Aesculus x arnoldiana
‘Autumn Splendor’

A nice hybrid cross between three related North American trees: Ohio, Yellow and Red Buckeyes. Autumn Splendor has short spikes of yellow-red flowers in spring, with maroon red foliage in fall—hence the name. The foliage has good resistance to leaf scorch, which is a common occurrence in Aesculus species. The mature tree has a nice rounded form, about 10 meters tall and wide. This tree is about 10 metres northwest of the Ruby Red Horse Chestnut (see map below), at the side of the circle road.

Celebrating my sister Joyce, and parents John and Helen Orlowski

My sister Joyce, and parents John and Helen Orlowski who lived through the tragedy of her homicide. Joyce was lively and popular, always with a smile and a laugh. She was on our winning high school senior division basketball team and loved to play clarinet in the school band at Gordon Graydon. She loved life and the outdoors and was looking forward to starting a dietician course at Ryerson. A promising life cut short too soon.
