Identification of Native Trees

WHEN: Sunday, June 2, 9:30 a.m. Please note: This event has been rescheduled from May 26. Registration is for one individual only. Each attendee must be registered separately. The tour will take place RAIN OR SHINE.

WHERE: Meet at Building 72 in the Dominion Arboretum (east of the roundabout at Prince of Wales and the NCC Driveway)

WHAT: Tree identification is kind of like detective work. During the growing season, the clues include the leaves, flowers, fruit and bark, as well as the shape and form of the tree. On this tree walk we’ll visit some representative species, looking at distinctive traits as well as traits that can vary from tree to tree. We’ll also talk about the concept of “nativeness” as it applies to trees. Join us to walk and talk among the trees!

Tour leader: Eric Jones, President of the Friends of the Farm

Attendance is limited to 40 people. If spaces fill up, you may ask to have your name added to a waiting list by sending us an email.

Register: Although the tours are free and open to the public, you must register in advance to attend by filling out this online form. Please note that free parking at the Arboretum and Farm is becoming more limited. Paid parking is available at the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Museum, a short walk from the Arboretum (entrance off Prince of Wales Drive).

COST: Admission is free, but donations are gratefully accepted during the tour. Places are limited, so first come, first served.
