WHERE: Heritage Rose Garden in the Ornamental Gardens west of the Prince of Wales roundabout.

As part of June Blooms, park in the Ag Museum lot (Pay & Display). The Friends of the Farm will be at the Farm entrance near the Museum parking area with additional information on garden tours and book signing. Light refreshments will be served.

DETAILS:

  • Take a guided tour of the Central Experimental Farm Heritage Rose Garden, when they should be at their mid-June best, conducted by the Friends expert Rose Team.
  • Roses have a long history at the CEF. The Heritage Rose Garden was rehabilitated by the Friends of the Farm beginning in 1999 and officially opened in 2001
  • The Garden is approximately 220 by 50 feet and has four lattice entrances with a small bird bath in the middle. Its 220 roses showcase varieties that were grown in the past gardens at the Farm alongside one-time bloomers and modern repeat bloomers. The collection ranges from ramblers to shrubs to smaller varieties.
  • Learn about roses that were originally bred at the Farm by William Saunders, its first director, by Isabella Preston, and by Dr. Felicitas Svejda. View the Heritage Roses in the CEF Collection.
  • Get tips on what will work best in your garden and how to keep your roses happily blooming.
