Jun 5, 2024 @ 6:15 PM – 7:15 PM
Ornamental Gardens, Central Experimental Farm

WHEN: Wednesday, June 5 (rain date June 6) at 6:15 p.m. Registration is for one individual only. Each attendee must be registered separately.

WHERE: Meet at the oak tree in the peony gardens. There is a small parking lot beside Building 75 on the NCC Driveway. Visitor parking at this location is limited to 90 minutes.

WHAT: William Saunders, first Director of the CEF, brought peonies to the Farm in the 1890s. The most prolific and influential breeder of both herbaceous and tree peonies of all times was Saunders’s son, A.P. Saunders, a founding member of the American Peony Society. Today, there are over 600 peonies, 400 varieties and over 100 Saunders’ peonies, making it the largest collection of his peonies in North America.  Our peonies have won prizes at Canadian Peony Society and have been represented on Canadian stamps.

Tour leader: Blaine Marchand, member of the Peony Team and former Gardens Director, Friends of the Farm.

Attendance is limited to 25 people. If spaces fill up, you may ask to have your name added to a waiting list by sending us an email.

Register: Although the tours are free and open to the public, you must register in advance to attend by filling out this ONLINE FORM. Please note that free parking at the Farm is becoming more limited. Paid parking is available at the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Museum.

COST: Admission is free, but donations are gratefully accepted during the tour. Places are limited, so first come, first served.
