WHEN: Sunday July 20, 9:30 am [Rain or Shine]
WHERE: The tour will start at Building 72 in the Arboretum.
WHAT: Bark is the elephant in the room—there’s a lot of it, but people don’t talk about it. Bark has many surprising functions and qualities. Bark protects trees from the environment, yes, but it also brings the environment in. We’ll look at different types of bark—Scaly, furrowed, ridged, plated, shaggy, flaking, peeling—and how it’s used by the trees. We’ll also look at the many ways bark is used by people and wildlife.
Tour leader: Eric Jones
